AT&T Hackathon at IBM Impact

AT&T has aided IBM Worklight developers by providing pre-made adapter for their APIs. Now it is easier to leverage Web-APIs like speech to text, context based advertising, text to speech, and more with AT&T. AT&T held a hackathon at IBM Impact 2013 for developers to come and utilize IBM Worklight and AT&T API’s together. Bradley Sobie, one of our lead Web and Mobile Developers, and I teamed up and entered the hackathon. Check out the results below!

Check out the AT&T Adapters here. For more information about the AT&T Hackathon at IBM Impact 2013, click here.

IBM MobileFirst

IBM Mobile first is IBM’s new campaign and drive toward the future. What is IBM MobileFirst? Rather than tell you, I will let this video from IBM explain it.

It is pretty straight forward. The enterprise is transforming and mobile channels will longer be an extension of current business. Mobile will become the new primary platform for where work is done. Over the years, report after report has consistently built up to one conclusion – Business is mobile.

IBM Worklight and Phonegap Comparison

Many customers ask us: “What is the difference between IBM Worklight and PhoneGap?” Well, here it is:

  • However, you should understand that IBM Worklight and PhoneGap aren’t so easily compared because they are not the same thing.
  • IBM Worklight is a Mobile Application Platform while PhoneGap is more of a JavaScript bridge library to use within your current IDE. There is a rather large gap in the between the two from a usage standpoint
  • Although this article compares PhoneGap and IBM Worklight, it is meant to show that they are not competitive products.
  • IBM Worklight leverages PhoneGap and adds to its capabilities as a deeper mobile solution.
  • IBM Worklight actually comes packaged with PhoneGap. Worklight extends its reach as a full Mobile Application Platform as opposed to just being a script library or mobile app packaging client.

We’ve broken down some of the features into 4 areas in the Mobile App Life Cycle: Design, Build, Deploy & Manage. You can also DOWNLOAD a PDF copy of this comparison..

IBM Mobile Foundation 5.0.5

It is finally here. The new and improved IBM Mobile Foundation has released with fixes, addons, and plenty of great new features for IBM Worklight.

Check out an archived post about 10 new things in IBM Worklight here.

That is just one of the many new things in Worklight. jQuery mobile is one of my favorite libraries to use. Now, it will be faster than it already is to design and build a new Hybrid Application.
